1. Product Reviews
Nowadays, people look to the internet before making a purchase. They want to know what others think about products they like.
In this way, YouTube is like any other social media channel. People flock to trusted channels to see what they think of products they have reviewed.
Consumers are more likely to buy if they see positive reviews online, according to surveys.
Obviously, it depends on the product, but for many, YouTube is ideal. People relate better to reviews if they can see the product being used, whether it’s makeup, a car, or a new kitchen gadget.
2. Celebrity Gossip
Celebrity gossip is nothing new – newspaper tabloids have thrived on it for years, and there are even cable television channels dedicated to it.
It’s no surprise that people visit YouTube to get their celebrity gossip fix. Of course, many of these videos still look like tabloid headlines, and you can’t believe everything you see and hear.
3. Vlogs
A blog, short for weblog, started out as a web-based diary of one’s daily activities. Although blogs have evolved since then, you can still find happy people writing about their daily breakfast and their day’s accomplishments.
Vlogs are video blogs with a similar concept to the original blog. They’re like a video diary.
Because they are on YouTube, they are more public than a diary hidden under the bed, and thus more engaging.
Like a diary, vlogs feature unscripted dialogue and provide an honest look into the creator’s mind. They often have a theme.
Vlogs are often YouTube’s version of reality TV. You get a glimpse into the vlogger’s life (or at least what they are willing to share). Like reality TV, many vlog channels have a large following.
4. Unboxing Videos
Unboxing videos are very 21st century. Surprisingly many people enjoy watching others open a new product’s box!
These are hybrids of shopping spree/haul videos and product review videos, falling somewhere between the two.
In some ways, the love for these videos is similar to a child’s joy at opening presents on Christmas morning. Similarly, unboxing videos allow the viewer to share in the excitement of discovering the package’s contents for the first time.
An unboxing video can have a huge impact on consumer buying decisions and can be very profitable for brands. Another huge opportunity for influencer marketing.
